The Department of Medical Laboratory Science (MeLS) is one of seven departments within the Hawassa College of Health Sciences. The department has offered a junior diploma program since 1980.  In 2023, MeLS launched a Bachelor of Science (Medical Laboratory Science) post-basic degree program.  Currently, the department serves post-basic undergraduate students, Level IV government students, and self-sponsored students.
