The department of Pharmacy is one of academic portion of Hawassa health Science College. It had been established in 2004, with the objective of training middle level pharmacy professionals (pharmacy technicians) to fulfill the local needs. As the need for pharmacy professionals raise generic bachelor pharmacy and post basic program is introduced in 2023. It has showing advancements with visible strides of training pharmacy at diploma and then, to the current generic and post basic degree level.

The department of Pharmacy is one of academic portion of Hawassa health Science College. It had been established in 1995 E.C, with the objective of training middle level pharmacy professionals (pharmacy technicians) to fulfill the local needs. As the need for pharmacy professionals raise generic Bachelor pharm and post basic program is introduced in 2015 E.C .It has showing advancements with a visible strides of training pharmacy at diploma and then, to the current, graduate and post basic level. The department is also offering self-sponsored training with level-4 pharmacy technician and Bachelor of pharmacy program. Enrollment and graduation rates for students:
- A total of 1325 government sponsored pharmacy technicians (from 1995-2014 E.C) and 562 self-sponsored (from 2001-2014) have been graduated.
- Retooling pharmacy technicians program (from2004-2006 E.C) has upgraded 96 certificate holders to diploma pharmacy technicians.
- In 2015 E.C post basic Bachelor pharmacy (Bpharm) program is launched to upgrade pharmacy technicians’ .Currently 123 trainees are under enrollment.
- At the moment a self-sponsored B.pharm program, which was introduced in 2015 E.C, is delivering training for 110 trainees.
- Currently 80 are enrolled in government-sponsored and 257 self -sponsored pharmacy technician program.
